Beachfront Hotels in Puerto Vallarta
Wake up on the sand — but "beachfront" means something different in each area.
Plenty of Puerto Vallarta hotels are on the water, but the beach you step onto varies a lot by area. Here's what beachfront means where.
By area
- Zona Romántica / Los Muertos — beachfront and walkable to restaurants and nightlife. The beach (Los Muertos) is lively and narrower.
- Hotel Zone — the widest, calmest beachfront, fronted by big resorts. Great sand, little to walk to.
- Conchas Chinas — boutique stays above pretty rocky coves, calmer water, quieter.
- Marina & north — modern beachfront, quieter, further from Old Town.
What to check
- "Beachfront" vs "beach access" — some hotels are across a road; read the map, not just the label.
- Swimmable water — the open Pacific has surf and currents; sheltered coves like Conchas Chinas are calmer.
- Walkability — only Old Town gives you beachfront plus a real neighbourhood on foot.
"Beachfront" is not a regulated term
Listings use it loosely. Before booking, check the map rather than the description, and look for three specific things:
- Is there a road between the hotel and the sand? Several "beachfront" properties sit across a street.
- Does the hotel have its own beach access, or do you walk to a public entrance?
- Is the beach in front actually swimmable? Some stretches are rocky or have strong surf.
Remember that all beaches in Mexico are public. A hotel can own its loungers, not the sand — so "private beach" claims mean a serviced area, not exclusivity.

Higher floor or ground floor?
A ground-floor room with direct access sounds ideal and is often noisier — you're beside the pool bar and the walkway. Higher floors trade the few extra steps for the view and quiet, which on a west-facing coast means sunsets from your own balcony. Ask for "high floor, ocean view" rather than assuming a sea-view booking delivers it.
Beachfront in the green season
From June to October the sea is warmest and the surf livelier, and beaches can narrow after heavy rain. It's also when beachfront rooms are cheapest by a wide margin — see best time to visit.
