Adults-Only Resorts in Puerto Vallarta

Quieter pools, couples-focused, no kids — the grown-up version of the resort holiday.

If your idea of a beach holiday is calm rather than cannonballs, an adults-only resort keeps the all-inclusive convenience without the family-resort noise. Puerto Vallarta and the wider bay have a good range.

What "adults-only" gets you

A calmer atmosphere — quieter pools and restaurants, more of a couples crowd.
A more grown-up product — adults-only resorts often lean upscale, with better dining and spas.
Romance-friendly extras — many cater to honeymoons and anniversaries.

It guarantees no children. It does not guarantee quiet — some adults-only resorts are built around pool parties and DJs, others around spa silence. Read recent reviews for the words "lively" and "music", not just the star rating. Minimum ages vary (commonly 16 or 18), so check if you're travelling with older teenagers.

Several family resorts also keep adults-only spaces: the Westin Playa Vallarta's swim-up suites, Fiesta Americana's beach club, Sunset Plaza's adults pool, Hyatt Ziva's adults-only areas and Krystal Grand's Hacienda section, for guests 13 and over. Where to look

Adults-only all-inclusives cluster in the Hotel Zone, Marina and up the coast in Nuevo Vallarta. For an adults-oriented scene that isn't a resort, Zona Romántica is full of small boutique and adults-only boutique hotels within walking distance of restaurants and nightlife — including many gay-owned properties (see gay Puerto Vallarta). The label covers two products that have almost nothing in common, and booking the wrong one is the usual source of disappointment:

Questions worth asking before booking

Is the property all-inclusive, and what does that cover? See all-inclusive resorts.
Is there entertainment near the pool in the evening, or is it quiet?
How far is it from Old Town if you want to eat out?
Are the à la carte restaurants included, and do they need booking on arrival?
