All-Inclusive Resorts in Puerto Vallarta
Which resorts are all-inclusive, where they are and which are adults-only — and the trade-off to know before you book.
All-inclusive is the default image of a Mexican beach holiday: one price, all your meals and drinks, a pool and a lounger, nothing to think about. Puerto Vallarta has plenty of them — but where they are, and who they really suit, is worth understanding first.
Where the resorts are
Puerto Vallarta's all-inclusives are spread across three areas of the city — the Hotel Zone, Marina Vallarta and the cliffs and coves of the south shore — with the biggest cluster of all up the coast in Nuevo Vallarta, which is much further from town than it looks on a map. They are not in Old Town — that's the crux of the decision.

The resorts, area by area
All-inclusive status and age policies as the hotels and the city's visitors' bureau publish them in October 2026. "Optional" means you can also book room-only or with breakfast. Check the current terms for your dates before booking. We haven't stayed in these resorts; this is a factual comparison, not a ranking.

Nuevo Vallarta
The bay's largest group of all-inclusives — Grand Velas, Vidanta, Paradise Village, the three Riu hotels, Marival and others — is compared separately in hotels in Nuevo Vallarta. RIU has no hotel in Puerto Vallarta itself; its three are all on the Nayarit side. The Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta there is closed for renovation until a planned reopening on 17 December 2026.

Who all-inclusive suits
- Families — kids' clubs, safe pools, no restaurant logistics.
- Groups & celebrations — a fixed budget, everything on-site.
- Pure relaxers — if your ideal day is a lounger and a swim-up bar.
What "all-inclusive" really covers
The label is not standardised, and the gap between resorts is wide. Before booking, check each of these explicitly — they're the usual sources of an unexpected bill:
- Drinks tier — basic all-inclusive often means domestic spirits and house wine; premium brands cost extra.
- À la carte restaurants — many resorts include the buffet but limit or charge for the speciality restaurants, and require reservations. Ask how many are actually included, and whether they need booking on arrival.
- Room service and minibar — sometimes included, sometimes not, sometimes only certain hours.
- Motorised watersports, spa and excursions — almost always extra.
- Resort fees and tips — tipping is not always included even when "everything" is.
Does all-inclusive actually save money here?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on how you eat and drink. Puerto Vallarta has unusually good and unusually cheap food outside the resorts — you can eat extremely well in Old Town for a fraction of resort restaurant prices. So:
- All-inclusive wins if you drink a fair amount, have children, and genuinely intend to stay on the property most days.
- It loses if you want to eat out — you end up paying twice, once in the package and again in town.

Taxes on top of the price
Jalisco charges a state lodging tax of 5% in 2026, up from 3% in 2024 and 4% in 2025; Nayarit, for Nuevo Vallarta, also charges 5%. Check whether the price you're quoted includes it. There is no municipal tourist fee in Puerto Vallarta: a charge on foreign visitors approved for 2025 was struck down by Mexico's Supreme Court in December 2025, and according to local press it was never collected.
What to check before booking
- Adults-only vs family — very different atmospheres; see adults-only resorts.
- Beach quality — is the beach in front swimmable, or is it primarily a pool resort? Hotel Zone beaches are wider and calmer than Old Town's.
An all-inclusive isn't a mistake — it's a different holiday. If you came to see Puerto Vallarta, though, staying on the strip means seeing it through a taxi window. Read the honest comparison in where to stay.

Are all-inclusive resorts worth it in Puerto Vallarta?
They suit families, groups and anyone who intends to stay on the property. They are poor value if you want to eat out, because food outside the resorts is good and inexpensive.
Where are the all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta?
In the Hotel Zone, around Marina Vallarta and on the south shore between Conchas Chinas and Mismaloya, with the largest cluster up the coast in Nuevo Vallarta. They are not in Old Town.
