Gay Puerto Vallarta
One of Latin America's leading LGBTQ+ destinations — and it's all walkable, in one neighbourhood.
Puerto Vallarta is widely considered the most LGBTQ+-friendly beach city in Mexico, and the scene is refreshingly concentrated: almost all of it is in Zona Romántica (Old Town), within a few walkable blocks. In 2026 the area is being formally designated Mexico's first LGBTQ+ friendly district.
Where the scene is
The heart of it runs along Lázaro Cárdenas and Olas Altas, a compact grid of bars, clubs, cabarets and restaurants. Because it's so concentrated, you can bar-hop on foot all night without a taxi — one of the things regulars love most about it.
The beach
Playa Los Muertos is the main gay beach, with beach clubs and daytime pool parties clustered around its southern end, near the pier. It's the daytime counterpart to the night-time bar scene a couple of blocks inland.

Events
The calendar peaks with Vallarta Pride in late May and a busy high season from November to April, but the scene runs year-round. As always, the low green season is quieter and cheaper.
The appeal isn't just that Puerto Vallarta is gay-friendly — it's that the whole scene fits in one relaxed, walkable neighbourhood by the beach.
