Puerto Vallarta Nightlife
From rooftop cocktails to late clubs — and it's nearly all walkable in Old Town.
Puerto Vallarta's nightlife is concentrated and walkable, which is its great advantage: you can start with a sunset cocktail, move to dinner and end in a club without ever getting in a taxi. Here's how the night divides up.
Rooftops & sunset bars
Start high. Old Town has a cluster of rooftop bars facing west over the bay — the reliable PV sunset with a drink in hand. Come early in high season; the good rooftops fill up.
Zona Romántica — the walkable core
After dark, Old Town around Lázaro Cárdenas and Olas Altas is the densest cluster of bars, cabarets and clubs, and the heart of the city's LGBTQ+ scene. Cabaret and drag shows are a Vallarta speciality worth catching at least once.
The Malecón & downtown
The Malecón and downtown draw a livelier, younger, more mainstream club crowd — bigger venues, louder music, later nights. It's a short walk or cheap taxi from Old Town.
On the water
For something different, a sunset or party cruise is a nightlife option in its own right — decide between a quiet sail and a full booze cruise before booking.
Practical notes
- Things start late — bars fill after 10–11pm, clubs later.
- Most of Old Town is walkable; use taxis or Uber for downtown clubs.
- Keep an eye on your drink and valuables, as anywhere — see safety.
