Puerto Vallarta for Couples
Sunsets over the bay, secluded coves and Old Town dinners — the romantic version.
Puerto Vallarta is genuinely good for couples, and not in a contrived way: the bay faces west so sunsets are a nightly event, the food scene is excellent, and the best beaches take a boat to reach. This plan leans into all three.
Where to stay
Two good options depending on your taste. Old Town boutique hotels put you in the middle of the restaurants and the atmosphere — many are adults-only. Or the hillside of Conchas Chinas and Amapas for a terrace with a bay view and more privacy, a short ride from town.
Day 1 — Arrive and take it slow
Check in, a late-afternoon walk on the Malecón, a rooftop drink for sunset and dinner on Basilio Badillo.
Day 2 — A quiet beach day
Skip the busy stretch and head to Conchas Chinas — rocky coves, calmer water and far fewer people than Los Muertos. Long lunch, nothing scheduled.
Day 3 — Out on the bay
A small-boat sailing cruise rather than a party catamaran, or a day at Yelapa — waterfalls, a beach, and no cars.
Day 4 — Something memorable
In season, whale watching is the standout option. Otherwise Rhythms of the Night at Las Caletas — a candlelit cove reachable only by boat — is the classic romantic evening here, touristy but genuinely atmospheric.
Day 5 — Food and farewell
A food tour if you haven't, or simply work through the restaurants of Old Town. Finish with a last sunset.
The single best romantic thing in Puerto Vallarta costs nothing: find a west-facing rooftop, order one drink, and be there half an hour before sunset.
